The Ministry of Health issued a statement on West Nile virus infection. The Ministry of Health’s statement said that the virus was detected in 6 people in 2024.

*“West Nile virus infection is a viral disease that is spread through the bite of mosquitoes that carry the virus. The disease is generally seasonal, occurring in the summer and early fall. The disease is not spread directly from person to person.

* West Nile virus infection has been present in our country since 2010, and 6 people have been found infected in 2024. Our follow-up and treatment of patients are still ongoing.

* Our department has conducted the necessary research and is strictly following the process. The current progress will be made public.”

Prof. Dr. Yan Wuzi warns

The president of the Turkish Association of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, Prof. Dr. Serap Şimşek Yavuz, warned of the epidemic of the virus that causes West Nile fever and is transmitted by the Culex mosquito. Yavuz reported that cases of West Nile virus infection began to be reported in Bursa and Istanbul in the Marmara region.
