St. Kitts and Nevis: As excitement continues to build for the 2024 St. Kitts Music Festival, the Minister of Tourism believes they are successfully meeting their targets, particularly with increased flight numbers and hotel occupancy rates during the off-season.
The festival kicks off on Thursday evening with the “Jump-Up Night” which will see performances by artists such as Nadia Batson, Asa Bantan, Adam O, “Akaii-u-Sweet” and Speedy. It is vital for the Ministry of Tourism that all flights into the Federation are fully booked during this period.
“We are fulfilling the original intention of the festival and hopefully it will also generate and boost the economy,” the minister said on the sidelines of his first press conference on Thursday (June 27) morning.
Both American Airlines and JetBlue Airways have increased flights to the alliance, greatly supporting the ministry’s efforts to boost hotel occupancy rates.
“Yes, we checked with our hotel partners and their occupancy is up, flights are full, even the extra flights on JetBlue are full… We do have two American Airlines flights specifically for the festive period; we have extra flights on Thursday, Wednesday through Sunday, and even yesterday (June 26), I spoke to someone who was on that flight and they told me that flight was full, that was the second flight,” the minister revealed.
Despite the relatively late announcement of the artist line-up, the minister took note of the positive feedback.
“Indeed, it has been instrumental in attracting visitors to the destination during what we call the snow season. As such, it is an important tool for our industry; certainly, we need to rethink the sustainability of the festival and what changes, if any, we need to make to ensure it continues to thrive for the next 26 years,” added Henderson.
According to a press conference Thursday morning, the minister expressed optimism about the festival’s future.
Meanwhile, all of the artists participating in Thursday night’s show expressed their excitement about taking to the stage.
