ANTARA – Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan on Saturday cleared the export of coconut derivative products produced in Lampung to Australia, the Netherlands, China and Tanzania, with a total value of IDR 25.3 billion (about USD 1.5 million).

Hassan said in South Lampung district of Lampung province that the exported products include coconut water, coconut milk and shredded coconut.

Hassan said the government will continue to assist domestic businesses in exporting Indonesian goods to countries that are unable to produce such goods.

“As a coconut producing country, we have the capacity to export coconuts to non-producing countries,” he affirmed.

The minister also spoke highly of Indonesia’s downstream policies, which have driven the country to increase the value of goods.

“Through downstream processes, we can now process more coconuts into various derivative products other than copra, such as coconut powder, coconut milk powder, coconut milk liquid, coconut water, etc. Coconut coconut (Coconut gel),” he said.

Furthermore, he affirmed that downstream policies encourage people to ensure that no part of the coconut is wasted. In this regard, Hassan said that coconut shells can be processed into activated charcoal, while coconut fiber can be used as a material for car seats.

Meanwhile, Agus Susanto, a representative of export company PT Sari Segar Husada, said his company will make the farewell event a routine activity.

“Today, we sent out 1,500 tonnes of export cargo for August. We will make this activity a regular activity,” he said.

Susanto also stressed that the party is committed to maintaining product quality in order to maintain the trust of importing countries.

“We also receive requests from other countries such as France, the United States and the Philippines. Coconut drinks, shredded coconut and coconut milk are the most in-demand products,” he commented.
