The Burkina Endeavour Mining Group launched its 2023 Sustainable Development Report in Ouagadougou on Monday, July 1, 2024. The award ceremony was presided over by Doulaye Sanou, Secretary General of the Ministry of Mines, on behalf of Minister Yacouba Zabré Gouba.
Through this report, the structure highlights progress made towards its objectives and contribution to a ‘better’ future for local communities and the environment.
As can be seen from this report, several activities were carried out within the framework of sustainable development in 2023. These activities are built around Endeavour Mining’s strategy, which is based on 3 components (Environmental, Social and Governance).
Thus, among the activities carried out, we note the implementation of an agricultural project that has benefited 200 producers in 20 villages with production inputs, as well as agricultural farms and handmade soap projects that have benefited 866 women.
In addition, the Group invested 600 million CFA francs to benefit internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Burkina Faso. It also benefited 14 young girls with scholarships to cover all their studies during university. Scholarships were also given to 191 of the most deserving children of employees, known as the “little golden children”, and to 25 of the best high school graduates from the Group’s mine locations, known as the “elites of tomorrow”.
The report mentioned that in 2023, the tax contribution of mining companies will be around 150 billion CFA francs, and the tax contribution of the Local Mining Development Fund (FMDL) will exceed 5 billion CFA francs.
Souleymane Boly, Country Director and Vice President for Public Affairs of Endeavour Mining Burkina, said that the group received several recognitions for its sustainable development actions in 2023. This was an award for the company’s commitment to the fight against AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases (Mana site) and a badge of honor from the local authorities. It was also recognized by the Burkina Faso Medical Work Inspection for the best work service in Burkina Faso (still Mana site).
In his speech, Doulaye Sanou congratulated the orchestra for its “exemplary” performance. He also invited all mines to become part of the drive for sustainable development by planning and integrating the needs of all stakeholders. Only in this way, he insisted, can we ensure a good future for future generations.
