An armed forces aircraft carried out an airstrike in El Geneina in the early hours of Tuesday, targeting the Bolsa district east of the city.

The attack took place in an uninhabited area and caused no casualties or property damage.

“Military aircraft dropped two bombs on the eastern side of the city, but there was no damage to property,” explained engineer Mohammed Moussa Al Ghali in an interview with Tamazuj Radio.

He continued: “The explosion caused fear and terror among residents.”

Boutros-Ghali called on the warring parties to respect civilians in areas not directly involved in the fighting, stressing that they are the only victims of such incidents. He expressed hope that the war would end and urged the warring parties to participate in the Geneva negotiations scheduled for August 14 to end the conflict and alleviate the suffering of the people.

Fakhruddin Abakar Zakaria, a human rights lawyer and member of the El Geneina Emergency Unit, condemned the violations against civilians, especially the repeated air strikes.

“There were no casualties from the explosion this morning as it occurred in an uninhabited area,” Zakaria noted.

He called on the international community to ban military flights over Darfur.

Resident Hamid Amin Hamid expressed anger and dissatisfaction with the airstrikes and demanded a flight ban over the Darfur states.
