Milan Uhrík sees protecting EU state sovereignty and civil liberties as his top priority in the European Parliament

For Milan Uhrík (Sovereign European Republic), the European Parliament’s top priority will be the protection of the sovereignty of EU member states, the protection of citizens’ freedoms, opinions and expressions, the end of illegal immigration to Europe and the protection of traditional values. He expressed this in an interview with TASR.

Another of his priorities is a change in green policies – cancelling or revising the European Green Deal (the so-called Green New Deal). “So that the EU’s green policies do not destroy Slovak and European farmers and food producers, and do not introduce meaningless emission quotas for transport, farmers and residents. But nature protection should be oriented towards real nature conservation without secondary economic impacts on the living standards of ordinary people,” Ulric, who won 133,949 votes in the European elections in June, told TASR.

One of his priorities is to promote the EU’s “peace policy”, and he favors lifting sanctions on Russia and stopping financial and military aid to Ukraine. He added that the priorities outlined are also in line with the goals of the newly formed European Sovereign Nations (ESN) faction, of which he is vice president.

He said that patriots are still in the minority in the European Parliament (EP). However, this shows a significant strengthening compared to the previous term. “In the past there were only 60 MEPs in the Identity and Democracy (ID) faction, but now we have two factions – ESN and Patriots for Europe (PfE). The total number of MEPs is about 110, which is almost tripled,” said the Slovak MEP. He added that his faction has good cooperation with the PfE.

He will work in the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE), of which he was also a member during the previous term. He claims that for him this is the most important committee politically and that he covers its agenda as a patriot. The committees prepare, amend and adopt legislative proposals and initiative reports. They consider proposals from the European Commission and the Council and, if necessary, prepare reports to be submitted to the plenary.

He believes that the experience of the last term will help him in the next one. He believes that European politics is much more complicated than domestic politics. “Many parties from different countries have completely different views on certain issues, and it takes a lot of diplomatic efforts to integrate them and achieve some kind of result,” concluded Milan Ulick of TASS.
