HARARE – New Zimbabwe men’s national football team head coach Michael Nice has promised an unpredictable and dynamic style of play as the team prepares for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The 57-year-old German coach, who officially took over on Tuesday, aims to bring a modern and innovative perspective to Zimbabwean football tactics.
Nice holds a UEFA Pro Licence and a Masters degree in Sports Science, Exercise Physiology and Ethnology from the University of Heidelberg, as well as a unique coaching qualification using the ‘Life Dynamics’ teaching method pioneered by Jurgen Klopp.
Nice’s 25-year career spanned the Confederation of African Football, UEFA and the Asian Football Confederation, with over 200 international matches. His resume includes stints as head coach of the Rwanda men’s national football team and director of coaching and education for the South African Football Association (SAFA). He also contributed to the England national team’s backroom staff during the 2006 World Cup.
“I am a modern and innovative coach, driven by international challenges, and I think outside the box to gain a competitive advantage,” Nice said. “The Warriors have great players and great potential, but they need to avoid predictability in order to qualify for the FIFA World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations.”
Nice is confident in his ability to achieve these goals, stressing that he excels at improving performance factors professionally and making a significant impact quickly. “I will guide the national team with dedication and professionalism as we work towards building a victorious Zimbabwe that the nation can be proud of,” he added.
Lincoln Mutasa, chairman of the Zimbabwe Football Association’s standing committee, expressed strong support for Nice’s appointment. “The Zimbabwe Football Association believes that Michael Nice’s arrival will usher in a new era of success for the Warriors. His wealth of experience and innovative coaching style make him the ideal person to lead our national team to new heights,” Mutasa said.
