MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) — Just in time for summer, Memphis Mayor Paul Young and other city leaders officially opened the new Riverview Community Center in the Riverview/Kansas neighborhood.
The mayor, Councilman Edmund Ford Senior and County Commissioner Edmund Ford Junior cut the ribbon on the newly renovated center in the city’s southwest district.
This $2.3 million project will create an upgraded gym, large fitness room, new meeting rooms, computer lab, game room, new kitchen, new roof and parking!
“The last six years have been different,” said Nick Walker, director of the Memphis Parks Department. “I think we’ve put a lot of emphasis on providing resources and opportunities to everyone in this city, not just the places that have always had access to them.”
There will be new fitness classes at the Riverview Community Centre, and the mayor is inviting seniors to get involved in a new community garden.
