Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his anticipation for a meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden in Geneva next week.

Putin hopes that Russia and the United States will resume “personal contacts” and “direct dialogue”, and hopes to “establish mechanisms” in different areas such as strategic stability, resolving regional conflicts, global ecology, and economic cooperation.
“(We have to) restore personal contacts and relationships, establish direct dialogue, establish real and effective mechanisms in areas where we represent common interests – and those mechanisms exist, and I have spoken about them,” he said.

Biden pointed out that America’s friends, partners and allies see the world through the same lens as the United States, and Washington stands united with them in addressing Russia’s challenges to European security, starting with Russia’s aggression in Ukraine.

- NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana expects President Biden to raise issues such as Russia’s aggressive behavior around the world, strategic arms control, and climate change in his meeting with Putin.
