Mechanic admits misbehavior when customer paid bill

One mechanic admitted that he would overcharge a customer by 50 percent if he thought the customer didn’t know much about cars.

Nathan made the shocking admission anonymously on his radio show 101.9 The Fox Melbourne Wednesday.

Hosts Fifi, Fev and Nick watched Tik Tok A video of a young woman crying because she was overcharged.

Alice Bleathman said she went to two mechanics to fix her van, but ended up crying and accusing them of charging extra and providing poor service.

“Sometimes I hate being a girl,” Ms. Blythman said, tears streaming down her face.

“I know a lot of other women face the same problem. But just because you are a woman, they cheat on you.”

Nathan revealed he had been inflating bills and trying to make extra money from ignorant customers.

“This has been happening since I was an apprentice,” he said.

“When I was an apprentice I disagreed, but now I have my own business, Cost of Livingrent costs, factory costs, you have to do them all.

“You can’t survive without doing this.”

When Fifi presses the con man of 10 years to reveal exactly how he rips customers off, Nathan reveals who the best “money-maker” is.

“The people who make the most money are the sales reps who don’t pay for repairs, they pass the money on to the company,” he said.

“It was never followed up; they just paid cash, got reimbursed, and I added 20 to 30 percent to the cost.”

Fyfe then asked the mechanic if it was true that he overcharged female customers.

The outspoken mechanic said he is careful around women because they may have a man in their lives who knows everything about their vehicle.

“Having said that, you do often have some women who come in and you might add 10 to 15 percent to their fees,” he said.

“I’m telling you, the people who make money are the corporate guys who don’t know anything about their high-performance cars. So, you can put another 40 to 50 percent of your money in.”

The discovery shocked the three people.

“So you don’t actually feel guilty about deceiving others?” asked Feifei.

“No, that’s not the case. This is an industry-wide problem. Unfortunately, it’s part of the industry,” Nathan responded.

“I have friends who have their own shops that do the same thing.”

Fevre asks him if he ever made up “stuff” and Nathan’s answer shocks him.

He said, “I want to talk to you first and get your knowledge of cars.”

Favre responded, “Oh, so you’re trying to play a trick on me? See how much I know about cars?”

Nathan responded, “That’s right. Because if I did something, you could go home and check it out for yourself and you’d probably wonder, what the hell is going on…”

The mechanic also said he wasn’t worried about people coming back with cheaper offers because potential customers wouldn’t come back if they found a better deal.

Nathan said that in his 10 years in business, one woman came back with her husband.

“But you say ‘look here, look here’. And at the end of the day there’s just smoke and shadows,” he said.
