Omani female sprinter Mazoon al Alawi finished seventh in the 100m preliminary round at the Stade de France on Friday. The 26-year-old athlete failed to qualify for the first round with a time of 12.58 seconds. This time was not enough to make her one of the best four sprinters in the four preliminary rounds to advance to the first round.
Tai Nhi Yen of Vietnam won the championship with a time of 11.81 seconds. Halie Hazard of Grenada came in second with a time of 11.88 seconds. Bo Ya Zhang of Chinese Taipei came in third with a time of 11.99 seconds. The top three in each group and the five best times in the four groups advanced to the first round, which was held in the afternoon. Mariam Karim of the United Arab Emirates came in ninth with a time of 13.26 seconds in the second round.
Mazoun failed to break her personal best of 11.47 seconds in the 100m. She also failed to break her best time from the last Olympics, finishing sixth in the third heat at Tokyo 2020 in 12.35 seconds, and in Rio 2016, she ran 12.43 seconds.
Ali is full of confidence
Young Omani sprinter Ali al Balushi is expected to make his Olympic debut at the Paris Olympics in 2024. The 22-year-old will compete in the first round of the men’s 100m event, which will start at 13:55 (Oman time) on Saturday at the Stade de France.
Ali is the last athlete of the Omani team in this Olympics. Three athletes have been eliminated before. Ali’s goal is to show his best condition and the competition is expected to be very fierce.

He said his goal is to break his own record. “The Olympics is an important milestone that helps me gain more technical and physical experience. Ali’s actual preparation and technical plan will start in August 2023. Last January, he focused on the 60m indoor race at a training camp in Turkey, breaking the national record with a time of 6.58 seconds. At the Asian Indoor Track and Field Championships in Iran, he won first place with a time of 6.50 seconds, setting a record for Oman and the GCC. He participated in several training camps in the UAE, Greece, the Czech Republic and Germany.
