Muscat: Salalah FC’s Mazin al Riyami won the third race of the 2023 Oman Cycling Association (OCA) League in Al Sawadi, Barka on Friday, coming from behind in the standings to grab the red jersey.

Mazin won the race in 2 hours and 41 minutes, beating Husam al Rawahi of the Royal Army of Oman and Daniel Baldwin of Cycle KOM-NRO, who finished second and third, respectively, in the 110km road race with the same time.

Oman Club’s Mohammed Al Zaidi (2:41:38) and Hamid Al Maroochy (2:41:38) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the race that had 62 riders.

In the overall standings, Mazin won the championship with 200 points, surpassing the leader of the first two races, Mohammed Al Wabi of Cycle KOM Team (180 points). Saeed Al Rahebi of the Royal Oman Army Team ranked third with 170 points.

Omani Royal Army cyclists Husam al Rawahi (150 points) and Mohammed al Shandoudi (145 points) were fourth and fifth respectively.

Mohammed al Wahibi topped the Under-23 category to retain the white jersey. After the first three matches, Salalah FC’s Mundher al Hasani (135) was second and Oman FC’s Islam Ayad (120) was third.

Asad al Habsi (58) of Al Etifaq and Waleed al Fahdi (49) of Al Bahla took fourth and fifth place.

In the over-40 class, Cycle KOM’s Daniel Baldwin (101 points) won the green jersey over his captain Paul Willcox (74 points).

Bahla Club’s Saud al Mandhari (56) was third, with teammate Mohammed al Kindi (41) and Cycle KOM’s Karl Buchholtz (28) completing the top five in the over-40 category.

In the team rankings, the Royal Oman Army (715 points) was ahead of the Salalah Club (665 points), with Cycle KOM (651 points) close behind in third place. Among the 15 participating teams, the Oman Club was fourth with 447 points, and Wave Riders was fifth with 312 points.

The fourth OCA League match will be held in Gurayat on December 8 and is a 116-kilometer road race.
