MEXICO CITY (Apro) – Three-time Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen spoke to the media ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix and gave his thoughts on the recent two-year contract extension with Red Bull Racing teammate and Mexican driver Sergio “Checco” Perez.
During a meeting with the media at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Verstappen was asked about the continuity of Perez as team-mate and was pleased with the agreement reached between the two parties.
Although 2024 was not Perez’s best year with the team, the Dutch driver is sure that the Mexican achieved good results, which helped them to have a historic season in 2023, when they achieved a 1 -2 result in the Drivers’ World Championship.
“It’s great news that Checo (Perez) has signed a contract with the team until 2026 and I’m happy to continue the successful partnership we have established. We had a record season (in 2023) and the team (Red Bull) is very strong, so we hope to continue this success in the next two years,” said Verstappen.
How will Red Bull drivers perform in the 2024 season?
Looking ahead to the Canadian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen leads the drivers’ standings with 169 points, followed by Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc with 138. In third place is Lando Norris with 113 points.
Sergio “Checo” Perez has yet to have his best season since joining Red Bull in 2021 and currently sits fifth in the World Cup with 107 points.
