An atmosphere of shock and sadness prevailed in the quiet Hauts de St-Leu area of Reunion Island after the body of 62-year-old Mauritian Kamla Beechouck was discovered in her home at around 5.30pm on Thursday, July 18.
The 60-year-old’s nurse, concerned about not seeing her answering the phone, eventually raised the alarm and contacted firefighters. The victim’s nephew was due to meet her this past week to help her move. He tried to contact her several times but was unsuccessful, which made her even more worried.
The victim’s husband lives a few meters from the Mauritian home and he could be the murderer. The man is currently at large and is actively sought by law enforcement. He is no stranger to courts, as he was convicted of violent acts two years ago. A homicide investigation has been launched. The Reunion Island Research Department is making every effort to find the suspect in this criminal incident.
An autopsy is underway and preliminary results indicate Kamla Bijok had wounds on her arms and face, most likely caused by a bladed weapon.
