Nikao Sokattak and Titikaveka will look to break their winless streaks in round three of the 2024 Rarotonga football season this afternoon, while Matavera-Ngatangiia will take on Avatiu.

The third round of the 2024 Rarotonga football season kicked off on Wednesday, starting with a grassroots competition followed by the U18 boys’ game, kicking off with a midweek clash between Puaikura and Tupapa Maraerenga.

On Thursday, the U15 boys and senior girls took to the field, while on Friday, the U15 girls and senior boys battled it out.

The excitement continues with two key matches today as Matawira-Ngatangia takes on Awatiu at the Takitumu School Field and Nikau Sokatak takes on Titikaweka at the Nikau Sports Ground.

The Matavera-Ngatangiia vs Avatiu Premier Men’s match will kick off at 4:20pm at the Takitumu School Field.

Both Matawila-Ngatangia and Awatiu come into this tournament with identical records – one win and one loss each.

Matavella had a slow start but found their footing last week with an impressive bounce-back win, while Awatiu started the season with a solid win but suffered a setback in their second game.

Avatiu’s Premier Men’s team is a well-balanced squad that blends youthful energy with experienced leadership and they will be looking to capitalise on their strengths and build on their recent successes.

They will need to tighten up their defence and avoid one-on-one battles with Matavilla’s fast and skilful attackers. With both teams looking for a consistent performance, today’s game promises to be a crucial clash that could set the tone for their respective tournaments.

The senior women’s matchup between the two teams at 2:40 p.m. will be the perfect opener for the men’s tournament.

Matawila Ngatangia and Awatiu are also expected to make good progress. Matawila is high in morale and will be looking to bounce back after a defeat last week. Meanwhile, Awatiu showed grit and determination to draw in a hard-fought game against Puaikura after opening the campaign with a win last week. With both sides eager to get all three points, this game promises to be a tight affair.

Before the senior competition takes center stage, the junior competition will kick off with the U15 boys starting at 11:15 a.m., followed by the U15 girls at 12:15 p.m. and the U18 boys at 1:15 p.m.

The intensity of these matches speaks for itself as young talent on both sides look to not only impress but dominate.

In the other Super Men’s match, Nikau Sokatak will take on Titikaweka at the Nikau Stadium.

Both Nikausokatak and Titikaweka are eager to break their losing streak. As neither team has a win yet, today’s game is a great opportunity for one of them to kick-start the new season.

Nikau will be banking on home advantage while Titikaweka will be eager to iron out the flaws in their early performance and turn the tide.

In the senior women’s category, Nikao Sokattak and Titikaveka are also looking for their first wins.

Titikaweka showed some energy in their last match and they will aim to continue that momentum.

Meanwhile, Nikao will be looking to put in a strong performance in front of their home fans. This is set to be a close contest with both teams giving their all on the pitch in the fight for the all-important three points.

Youth competition will once again take center stage earlier in the day, with the U15 boys’ match kicking off at 11:15 a.m., the U15 girls’ match at 12:15 p.m., and the U18 boys’ match at 1:15 p.m.

These games are more than just opening games, they are full-fledged competitions where young players will have a chance to prove themselves. The teams will compete fiercely, each determined to outdo the other, and it will be an exciting showcase of young talent.
