Masset’s wife must face justice today for drug trafficking

Gianina García Troche, who also used the pseudonym Larissa Márquez Madalena, wife of fugitive drug convict Sebastián Marset, could face punishment in court today after being formally charged by the prosecutor’s office with links to international cocaine trafficking.

A preventive hearing is scheduled for today, Wednesday at 10:30, presided over by Judge Livia Alarcón, on the woman and her family environment.

The Controlled Drugs Prosecutor’s Office, led by Coordinator Julio César Porras, filed charges not only against Gianina García Troche, but also against Jimena Katherine Marset Cabrera, Sebastián Marset’s sister; Mauro García Troche, Gianina García’s brother; and Héctor Rodríguez Barrios.

The Public Ministry requested that Janina García, her family environment and all fugitives be detained for 180 days.

On the 17th of this month, Giannina was detained upon arrival at Madrid Barajas Airport (Spain) and subsequently indicted on charges of drug trafficking.

Investigations revealed that the woman fled on July 29, 2023, emerging from her mansion in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, located on Avenida Beni, crossing the Fifth Ring Road, together with her husband, Sebastián Marset, her two minor children and other relatives.

Financial connections

In the evidence presented, the prosecutor’s office documented actions during the operation carried out in the capital.

The investigative manual is accompanied by a report issued by Felcn and the Prosecutor’s Office on November 15, 2023, regarding a raid on a house in Mount Ulubo. During the raid, a search of the property was carried out and cannabis, a prohibited substance certified by pharmaceutical biochemical experts, was found.

Investigations revealed that Sebastián Marset lived in the apartment with his family and friends. In addition, contractual documents were found for a savings account at Banco Fassil (455431253, in US dollars), as well as a Bolivian account 455423153 in the name of Jimena Katherine Marset Cabrera, Sebastián Marset’s sister, with identification number 11266696, for the purchase and sale of foreign currencies.

Likewise, documents were found relating to Sebastian Masset’s father, Edgar Enrique Masset Díaz.

Reports from Spanish authorities show that Janina Garcia handed over her mobile phone upon arrival at Barajas Airport, which upon inspection revealed that she had arrived from Dubai, where she had taken several photos with her husband, Sebastian Masset.

Drug enforcement authorities and Paraguay’s Public Ministry reported that Masset was in Dubai.

Gianina García Troche is also under investigation for falsification of documents and Public Ministry authorities report that strict procedures are being implemented to make her extradition feasible so that she can answer to the Bolivian justice system.

Felcn and the prosecutor’s office confirmed in the report that three days before the escape, Masset took his children out the back door of the school they attended.
