Masisi’s attitude towards South Africa is at the heart of rising tensions within SADC

In a few weeks, the Southern African Development Community will hold a summit in Harare, Zimbabwe.

The early signs were that this would not be an ordinary family gathering – all the subtleties, all the nuances, all the diplomatic decorum would be thrown out the window.

At the end of the summit, the regional body will have a new chairperson.

His name is Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa, and according to the Southern African Development Community’s election observation mission, he presided over an election that was neither free nor fair.
