A woman accused of murdering her West Fortscray neighbour and dumping her body in the Maribino River has been charged after she allegedly broke into the elderly woman’s home and stole cash and jewellery.
Milena Bogojevska, 49, is charged with the July 12 murder of Lolene Joy Whitehand, 85, and breaking into the victim’s Grams Road home with intent to steal, according to court documents.

The third indictment alleges that Bogojevska stole jewelry, cash, wallets and personal items, including Whitehand’s identification documents, valued at $2,000.
Fishermen found Whitehand’s body in the Maribeno River near Smithfield Road in Flemington about 10.30am on July 14. She had a plastic bag over her head and her body was covered in bruises.

Other neighbors remembered the 85-year-old as “the nicest lady you could ever meet” and said she was well-known in West Footscray for her kind and friendly demeanor.
Bogojevska appeared via video link in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Tuesday from the Phyllis Frost Centre Women’s Prison.
The court heard that police requested more time to carefully examine the CCTV footage as it was crucial to the prosecution’s case.
Bogojevska’s lawyers also tried to hide her name and image from the public, but the move was met with resistance. age.
