Guevara’s statement came after National Maritime Commission (NMC) spokesman Alexander Lopez revealed that the Philippine government is “considering” filing another lawsuit against China over its recent aggressive actions at Escoda Shoal in the Western Philippine Islands.
“Any legal action taken by the Philippines on maritime issues in the Western Pacific must be reviewed by the National Maritime Council. In any case, the final decision always lies with the president,” Guevarra said.

Presidential Assistant for Maritime Affairs Andres Centino said the addition of new members to the NMC, including the attorney general, was a sign of the Philippine government’s “intention to consider filing a lawsuit.”
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) was conducting a routine logistical mission in the Western Pacific on Monday. However, a Chinese Coast Guard (CCG) vessel rammed two PCG vessels near Escoda Shoal.
