Prime Minister James Marape has delivered on his long-standing commitment to Niue, announcing the transfer of K5 million in outstanding debt to the Government of Niue.
Prime Minister Marape and his wife, Mrs Rachel Marape, stopped in Nuku’alofa after travelling from Port Moresby to Tonga on Sunday 25 August 2024 to attend the 53rd Pacific Islands Forum Leaders’ Meeting in the Tongan capital, Nuku’alofa.
In Niue, Prime Minister Dalton Tagalog hosted a welcoming ceremony showcasing the island’s rich cultural heritage, followed by a welcome reception for Prime Minister Marape.
Prime Minister Marape announced at the event his commitment to fulfil the unfulfilled K5 million promise made by the Papua New Guinea Government 10 years ago.
“This promise made in 2014 has not been fulfilled, so it is my responsibility to ensure it is completed,” Prime Minister Marape said.
The Prime Minister and Mrs Marape engaged with local representatives and community members to further solidify ties between Papua New Guinea and Niue.
