In a press release dated August 4, 2024, the Transitional Government of Mali expressed deep indignation at the statements of Ukrainian officials that implicated the country in the terrorist attack against the Malian Defense Forces in Tinzaouatne.
In fact, the spokesman for Ukraine’s military intelligence agency, Andrei Yusov, and the Ukrainian ambassador to Senegal, Yuri Pevovarov, publicly acknowledged and defended this involvement, but there was no denial or condemnation by the Ukrainian authorities.
In response, Mali considered these actions to be a clear aggression, a violation of its sovereignty and support for international terrorism.
The Malian government has therefore decided to immediately sever diplomatic relations with Ukraine and refer the Ukrainian officials’ remarks to the judicial authorities.
It also alerted regional and international bodies about Ukraine’s support for terrorism and invited countries supporting Ukraine to take responsibility.
Mali calls in particular on African countries to condemn these actions, which threaten the stability of the continent, and to reaffirm its determination to continue its struggle for liberation and sovereignty within the framework of the Alliance for the Sahel.
The Malian government expressed its condolences to the victims of insecurity in the Sahel region and pledged impunity for all crimes.
