On the occasion of Tabaski Day, the “Mègnè ma famille” association, which brings together sons and daughters from more than 35 districts of Malaya Sub-Region (Sigiri Province), has carried out a series of activities, including the planting of trees for the local area. It is now customary for youth associations to provide assistance to their communities on the occasion of the Tabaski festival in Guinea. The Mègnè ma famille association also knows this. Created in 2020 by four young people from Mègnè (the traditional name of the Malaya province), the “Mègnè ma famille” association is a real local development tool at the service of the province. This year, on the occasion of the Tabaski festival, as in previous years, the members have a goal: to carry out afforestation to combat the global warming that Siguiri prefecture is experiencing.
In addition to reforestation, the first stone of the construction of a borehole with own funds was launched. Moussa Kani Keïta, one of the founding members of the association, said several other activities were carried out in the Menicoma area.
“Every year, our families, brothers and sisters, meet in an area in Mègnè to celebrate and connect. This year, we started with cultural activities, which was to highlight our endangered cultures, such as Konden and others. Then, we visited the mythical huts of Mègnè. Then we reforested because the environment today is unusable. Without reforestation, the environment will become uninhabitable, so we want to bring it back to life. As a last activity, we donated drilling activities to the Mègnèkoma area and the work is ongoing,” he said.
The Menène Family Association has been planting trees every year for four years since its establishment. She has donated school supplies to the Kignèba district, built two boreholes in the Dantinia and Mègnèkoma districts, and provided three classrooms to the Danaya district, a project that is ongoing.
