MUSCAT: As bilateral relations, especially tourism relations, continue to grow, Malaysia hopes to improve tourism relations between the two countries by attracting more Omanis to Kuala Lumpur and promoting Oman in Oman.
This stance was expressed during a recent visit by Malaysia’s Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Tiong King Sing, who was received by Malaysia’s Minister of Heritage and Tourism Salim bin Mohammed al Mahrouqi at his office.
The two listened to Omran’s detailed presentation on the huge tourism potential between the two countries and reviewed the memorandum of understanding on cooperation framework to be signed by the two sides on the implementation plan for capacity building and explored ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the fields of heritage and tourism.
The two sides agreed that Oman-Malaysia relations are developing at multiple levels, covering extensive cooperation in the fields of economy and trade, education, tourism, defense, culture, science and sports.
Discussions focused on promoting mutual tourism between the two countries, increasing the number of direct flights between Oman and Malaysia, expanding training programmes in the tourism sector and increasing bilateral visits by business people.
The talks also revolved around plans targeting specific areas of interest and outlining a timeline for achieving the agreed targets, as well as channelling pilgrims and Hajj pilgrims to Malaysia through the country. The meeting was attended by several officials from both sides, who stressed the importance of the bilateral discussions.
