St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): In an interview with WINN, Alvaro Connor of Makana Ferry Services revealed plans to increase inter-island ferry services, including the launch of ferry services to Anguilla, where the 50th Summer Festival is being held.

The same can be said for the Commonwealth’s upcoming summer events which will further connect the people of Anguilla and St. Maarten with the Nevis Cultural Festival 50, the Nevis Mango Festival and St. Kitts Restaurant Week.

Connor told WINN that Makana plans to implement the new schedule from July 1, 2024. In addition, the ferry service also plans to increase the Saturday sailing to St. Kitts to provide passengers with shorter weekend trips.

The regional Heads of Government continued to call for and commit to expanding affordable intra-regional travel options to stimulate the region’s economies and promote growth that is not dependent on international people entering the Caribbean.

Travel within the region remains a challenge for many islands, although connectivity is improving with the increase in ferry services connecting closer islands.

Makana Ferry Services is actively working with the island authorities to iron out the details to ensure the increased ferry service runs seamlessly and efficiently.

Depending on which island passengers travel to on the Makana, round-trip fares range from $148 to $266, plus a departure fee from St. Kitts.

The M/V Makana has been operating for 30 years, providing regional travel opportunities to multiple destinations including St. Martin, Anguilla, Saba and St. Eustatius, and will begin serving St. Kitts and Nevis in October 2022
