A petition has been filed in the Court of Appeal against former President Maithripala Sirisena, accusing him of contempt of court.
The petition was received today by the Appeal Court President Nishanka Bandula Karunaratne and Justice Shashi Mahendran.
The court also directed the petitioner’s counsel to take steps to send notice to the accused, former Janapasi Maithripala Sirisena, to ascertain the facts relating to the petition.
The petition alleges that the Colombo Magistrate’s Court issued a temporary restraining order against former President Maithripala Sirisena, preventing him from assuming the presidency of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, and challenges the court for violating the order.
