Libreville, Thursday, July 18, 2024 (Infos Gabon) – The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, will organize next July 24-25 an important conference entitled “Made in Gabon” days of rice tasting.

Sponsored these days by the President of the Senate, Paulette Missambo, the project will be led by Dr. Yonnelle Déa Moukoumbi, head of the National Program for Selection and Improvement of Plant and Seed Production, and her team, and will be carried out in two phases.

Wednesday, July 24th will be dedicated to a meeting and debate in the Arambo Room of the Ministry of Economy, on the theme “The problem of rice cultivation in Africa: possible solutions, the case of Gabon”. Several experts and specialists must have a special intervention, among them Dr. Abdoulaye Seck, former Minister of Agriculture of Senegal, Dr. Manneh Baboucar, General Manager of the African Rice Center, Dr. Alpha Bocar Baldé, then General Manager of the Senegalese Agricultural and Industrial Development Agency (SODAGRI), who will be present at the company.

On July 25, people will taste the rice “Made in Gabon” at the Kougouleu Rice Experiment Station, where members of the Government and all guests will be given a guided tour. The PNSAV-PS programme has made it possible to develop and implement a national rice development plan on two main axes.

This was made possible by financial and technical support from the Gabonese government (2019) through the Ministry of Scientific Research, the intergovernmental organization Korea-Africa Food and Agriculture Cooperation Initiative (KAFACI), and the Japan International Cooperation Agency.

The aim of organizing these “Made in Gabon” rice tasting days is to show the public the current state of research on this basic food loved by Africans, as well as the different products developed in the Estuaire Province by the Gabonese team of researchers.
