French President Emmanuel Macron began consultations with major political groups on Friday on forming a new government for the country.
The early parliamentary elections on June 30 and July 7 produced the first result in decades that the governing majority does not belong to the coalition that also belongs to the president. No major group reached the number of representatives required to form a government.
First, Macron met with the leftists of the new Popular Front, with whom his Liberal Party has worked to prevent the nationalist right founded by Marine Le Pen from taking power. The radical left groups called on Macron to respect the election results, and their alliance was at the top of the list of names Macron will be given in the mandate to form a new government.
On Monday, negotiations with the nationalists in the National Assembly will continue. It is unclear how a new government can be formed when the three main groups refuse to cooperate with each other due to completely opposite plans, but there is still no talk of early elections.
