Macau to co-host two major sailing championships in early 2025

It is reported that Macau will host the World Sailing Tour (WMRT) New Sailing Championship and the 2025 MGM Macau International Regatta from January 8 to 12, 2025. Official Announcement Released on Monday.

The joint event will be held between the Governor Carvalho and Friendship Bridges, near Fisherman’s Wharf and the Outer Harbor.

The teams participating in the Macau Confrontation Cup will use the latest Far East 28R Confrontation version of the yacht to compete for a prize of US$100,000.

Although the Macau International Regatta has been held annually since 2019, with three races each year and attracting more than 300 participants, specific details of the upcoming Macau International Regatta have not yet been announced.

WMRT Executive Director James Pleasance noted that the WMRT Tour Macau will be “the second tournament held in Asia and China, along with the WMRT Finals in Shenzhen in December”, and stressed that it is a “key milestone” in the development of the event.

Luis Gomez, acting director of the Sports Bureau, also praised the event, saying, “This once again proves that Macau is capable of hosting large-scale international events and enhances the synergy between large-scale sports events and sports and other industries.”

The upcoming regatta will be organized in partnership between the Sports Authority, MGM Resorts and Ursa Major Regatta Management.

Last year’s Macau International Regatta Summarize The German Canadian Sailing Team won the championship, while the Estonian Windy Team and the Canadian Vivat Sailing Team took second and third place respectively.
