Germany’s leading airline Lufthansa announced on Monday that it will extend the suspension of flights to the Middle East until August 21 due to current regional tensions.
The suspension will affect all flights to and from Tel Aviv, Tehran, Beirut, Amman and Erbil, German news agency dpa reported.
In addition, all airlines in the Lufthansa Group, including Swiss, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines and Eurowings, will avoid flying over Iraqi and Iranian airspace.
The decision comes in response to current tensions between Israel and Iran.
Lufthansa had previously canceled flights to Israel on July 31 for security reasons. Last week, the airline further extended the suspension of flights to the Middle East as tensions escalated.
The initial suspension was due to expire on Tuesday, Xinua reported.
