Turnout in South Florida was significantly lower than expected on Tuesday, August 20, especially in Broward County, which saw a turnout of just 17.53%. Palm Beach County had the highest turnout of the three counties at 22.29%, while Miami-Dade County had a turnout of 19.56%.

In the Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate, Jamaican-American Stanley Campbell lost to incumbent U.S. Senator Rick Scott in the general election on November 5, with Debbie Mucarsel-Powell taking the nomination. Longtime U.S. Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz won a decisive victory in the primary for the U.S. House of Representatives District 28, receiving 83.2% of the vote.

Former Broward County Commissioner Barbara Sharief won the primary for the Florida Senate seat in District 35. Attorney Tamara Hamilton narrowly lost her race for Broward County Judge in District 25, losing to Corey Friedman by just 1.2 percent of the vote.

In Miami-Dade County, incumbent Mayor Daniela Levine Cava easily won the primary to retain her office, and in a more competitive race, Broward County Sheriff Gregory Toney also defeated several rivals in the primary.
