Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 12, 2024 (ZIZ Newsroom): St. Kitts and Nevis cricketers are currently preparing for the inaugural St. Kitts and Nevis Cool T20 Championship. The six teams currently have 13 players each, with captains in place and ready to lead the team, as well as Leeward Island regional players and a host of local talent.
The St. Kitts and Nevis Cool and Smooth T20 tournament is the sister tournament of the same name that has been held in Antigua for ten years. However, the St. Kitts and Nevis tournament offers local players a chance to etch their names in a brand new history book. Preparations are in full swing and the tournament will be held at Warner Park from April 22 to May 4.

Local icons Colin Archibald and Jeremiah Lewis will lead the Brownhill Dolphins and Hayessmith Sharks respectively, with the rest of the squad being led by Adelwin Phillips (Government Road Stingrays), Jacques Taylor (Molineux Blues) and the
Runners), Cameron Pennyfeather (St. Paul Barracudas) and Theron Bussue (Sandy Point Snappers). As part of the tournament, each team was required to draft at least two U19 players and was required to field at least one U19 player in three of the five group matches.
Speaking about the creation of the tournament, Dario Barthley, tournament CEO, explained the logic of bringing the tournament to St Kitts, who will be supported by tournament directors Darc Browne and Therele Wallace: “Having successfully hosted the Cool & Smooth T20 tournament in Antigua for ten years and having had the privilege of witnessing first-hand the talent of the St Kitts and Nevis players, we felt it was only fitting that the league host this tournament. Players like the Louis brothers and Tonito Willett are perfect examples of how players here can compete with the best in the region.”
The tournament attracted some of the most talented players from the Leeward Islands region, with West Indies U19 star Nathan Edward selected for the Government Roadside team and Sao Paulo shining thanks to international-level player Rakheem Cornwall.
As part of the tournament, the local community will be at the forefront and represented to ensure the team becomes a permanent part of the St. Kitts and Nevis sporting ecosystem and fills up Warner Park.
