Lilongwe City Council has embarked on infrastructure development projects in an effort to reshape the capital.

Speaking after touring the projects with journalists on Friday, Mayor Esther Sagawa reiterated the city council’s commitment to ensuring the projects are completed in a timely manner and to good standards.
She also said that as a committee, they will continue to work to allocate adequate funds to the contractor to facilitate timely completion.
“As contractors are working diligently to deliver high-quality work, the council will fully provide the necessary support to ensure these development projects are completed as quickly as possible,” Sagawa said.
Accompanying Sagawa on the tour were Deputy Mayor Ruth Chingwalu, Blantyre Mayor Joseph Makwinja and his deputy mayor Isaac Jomo Osman.
In his speech, Blantyre Mayor Joseph Makwija lamented that by participating in the exercise, they learned how the other side implemented various projects.
“We saw that both cities faced similar challenges, so this visit provided valuable insights into how to overcome these obstacles,” he said.
Projects being implemented in the municipality include: construction works on Bombe Road in Region 12, Senti Road, Region 12 road through the old PTC, Mponongo Bridge and the New Shire Box Cave.
