The Lithuanian Armed Forces have received Bolide missiles for the Swedish-made RBS-70 short-range air defense system. This was reported by the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense.

The total cost of the ammunition is 15 million euros.

In the fall of 2022, a contract was signed with the Swedish company SAAB Dynamics AB for the procurement of Bolide and MK-2 missiles for the RBS-70 system.

The RBS-70 system is used by the Lithuanian Air Defense Battalion, which is planned to be expanded to regimental size.

The ministry said the system was chosen for its “unprecedented operation and portability, as well as its complete immunity to mechanical and electromagnetic interference.”

Vilnius recently said it was considering buying the IRIS-T medium-range air defense system from Germany, but abandoned the plan last year.

In the fall of 2023, Latvia and Estonia reportedly signed a contract with Germany’s Diehl Defence to purchase the IRIS-T medium-range air defense system.

But Lithuania subsequently decided to give priority to the Norwegian NASAMS air defense system and signed a contract with the manufacturer in December.
