Lithuania plans to conduct a nationwide evacuation drill in the fall in order to strengthen its preparedness for emergencies, it announced on Wednesday. Lithuanian Agne Bilotet, Minister of the Interior.
“In order to really do it with high quality, we asked all local governments to provide specific, real information within a month and a half, including their capacity and funding needs, so that we can really plan everything qualitatively. This fall, we plan to hold extensive evacuation drills across the country, which will also allow us to check our preparedness,” she said.
According to information provided by the Ministry of the Interior, municipalities responsible for the evacuation of residents have planned these processes in their emergency management plans. The goal is for municipalities to be prepared to relocate a quarter of the population in an organized manner, giving priority to people with disabilities, pregnant women and families with small children. The remaining three quarters of the population will have to evacuate on their own.
