Flying from Linate to New York is already possible and does not require legislative changes. Simply take a Flacon 900 or a Gulfstream 650 to cover a distance of more than 11,000 km. They are not scheduled aircraft, but private jets that take off regularly from Milano Prime. Continued growth of business aviation in Milan
Private aviation has flourished during the pandemic, when only private jets roared through the sky, while thousands of civilian aircraft were parked in airport hangars, but the business aviation trend has not lost its luster: in 2023, SEA Prime managed about 33,900 flights, an increase of 4% compared to 2022 and 38% compared to 2019. The first three months of this year confirm this growth (4% compared to the first quarter of 2023), surpassing the Italian business aviation market (+2.6%) and the European airport (-3%), which ranks among the top four in Europe in terms of passenger traffic, after France, the United Kingdom and Germany, according to Wingx, a professional aviation industry platform.
“Many clients who had to relocate for work reasons during the pandemic discovered the advantages of a private jet and never gave it up,” explains the CEO. From business to leisure: During Milan Fashion Week this year, a peak of +6% was reached compared to last year.
Linate Prime Terminal expansion for the Olympics
The next step will be the €8-9 million expansion of the Linate Prime terminal and car park, which will be redesigned for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina. The latest renovation was completed for the 2015 World Expo: “We are committed to meeting the growing demand for business aviation services and infrastructure in Milan”, adds Dorigotti. The main goal of the terminal expansion is to create a modern and sustainable structure that respects the surrounding environment and the principles of environmental responsibility and innovation.
The interventions include the redesign of lounges and passenger service areas and the extension of the Linate Prime terminal by approximately 2,000 square meters, of which 400 square meters are dedicated to technical rooms and warehouses required for airport operations. The comfort and privacy of passengers and crew, as well as sustainable development concepts guided the project, such as the reuse of existing structures, the incorporation of advanced technologies, and the installation of photovoltaic panels for energy production. The heating and air conditioning systems are equipped with cutting-edge technology to minimize energy consumption and environmental impact.
