At the 30th Sarajevo Film Festival, the documentary “Brother’s Sniper” was screened in Sarajevo Cinema, which was packed with people and received thunderous applause. The difficult subject matter and emotional visual effects made many viewers cry. The film was directed by Christiana Lucia Grilli and Francesco Toscani, and written by Christiana Lucia Grilli.
This documentary tells the shocking story of Cemil Hodzic and his extraordinary project “Sniper Alley”, a collection of photographs by the world-renowned war photojournalist during the Siege of Sarajevo from 1992 to 1996. This project is very personal for Hodzic, as his brother Amer was killed by sniper shooting while playing in the street, however, it fits into the lives of thousands of people who experienced the same or a similar fate during that era of war destruction and aggression in the 1990s.
“Their determination was so strong and their compassion so strong that I had to agree,” said Cemil Hodzic, explaining that he was initially hesitant to release the film because the project was still in development. He particularly emphasized his concern for his mother, who also took part in the film, reliving the horrors of war and the pain of losing her son. But, as he said, through the filming of the film, he and his mother became so close to the authors that they now almost consider them family.
The film brings together a wide range of personalities who participated in its creation, including Thomas James Hirst, Feja Stucan, Mario Boccia, Alex Elena, Toni Capouzzo, Mirella Gekko, Alma Attar, Azra Nuhfendic, Enrico Mattia, Jasenko Pasic, Gigi Riva, Fikret Grabovica, Elvis Zlatic, Ulfeta Hodzic and Kanita Ita Fouchak.
