Stop Feeding the Geese

In his letter, Rising costs, declining service (June 1) Mike Chaney says the increase in the goose population is becoming a real problem and a possible health hazard. He also says the city is not doing anything to address the problem.

If we want the geese to go away, we have to stop feeding them. Geese love Kentucky bluegrass, and London has large tracts of it. One way to solve the goose problem is to convert lawns to trees, shrubs and ground covers.

Other options include converting lawns into vegetable gardens, providing food to food banks and strengthening cities to provide more housing.

Shifting the protest

In response to the protests by Palestinians and their supporters at various universities, I raise a question: Why are they not protesting the abuse of women and children by the Afghan Taliban, or condemning Hamas for attacking Israel and provoking wars that have killed thousands of innocent people?

They should direct their energy and anger toward these two groups rather than the universities that provide them with an education.

Outspoken

About the article “I’ve Had Enough”: PM, Ford harshly criticize anti-Semitism and school shootings (May 31).

Premier Doug Ford didn’t buckle or whimper when he warned those coming to Canada to behave themselves.

Ford stood up and spoke the truth for all Canadians.

The Prime Minister seems so afraid of his own shadow that he would rather start a world conflict with bullets than end it with wisdom.

Appeasement does no good to Canada. Timid politicians who go with the flow in order not to hurt others’ feelings do a disservice to all who voted for them and to Canada.

Mouse wins

Well done London. The green bins and every other week rubbish collections live up to my expectations.

I predicted that we would have a rat problem when the program was first rolled out.

I am seeing lots of rats in the back yard at the moment. I have lived at this address for over 25 years but have never seen rats until now, I am sure it is because of the green bins and lack of rubbish collection.

We cleaned out the green bin and made the garage safe. Saturday morning I put the rubbish in the bin and found a 20cm long tailed rat that had eaten my bin and all the bags in it.

Needless to say, I am not a happy housing taxpayer right now.

Our bins are sealed and clean but I think the city better adjust the collection times otherwise London will have a big problem because we all know people leave their rubbish wherever they want and don’t clean their bins properly so where there is rubbish and a source of food there are rodents.
