The “Let’s Connect” event will feature a discussion with Ambassador Max on the country’s recovery following the passage of Hurricane Beryl, plans to celebrate the island’s 62nd anniversary of independence, and will host a book launch by Jamaican author Dr. Patricia V. Smith.
Ambassador to the United States Her Excellency Audrey Marks will host a town hall meeting on Thursday (July 18) at 7:00 pm EST (Washington, DC) / 6:00 pm EST (Jamaica).
The conference will be held in a hybrid format, with Dr. Smith as a live guest and online participants.
Ambassador Marks said Dr. Smith’s biography, titled “I Persisted,” provides a first-hand account of the author’s journey from the streets of Spanish Town to a highly successful entrepreneur.
“As we work to recover from Hurricane Beryl and usher in the season of independence, this book is a poignant reminder of the resilient Jamaican spirit. This powerful story of perseverance will be an inspiration to many, especially those who have experienced adversity, and especially women. Dr. Smith’s story inspires the will and hope of people that they too can triumph,” said Ambassador Marks.
For the Independence Day event, Jamaica’s Consuls General in Miami and New York, Oliver Mair and Alsion Wilson, and Honorary Consuls from across the United States will provide updates on planned activities.
Access to Ambassador Marks enables Jamaicans at home and abroad to communicate directly with the Ambassador on bilateral matters between Jamaica and the United States and to stay informed of the policies and programs of the Government of Jamaica and the activities of the Embassy.
Ambassador Marks is typically accompanied on his visits by a number of distinguished guests, including government ministers, U.S. government officials, leading figures from various local and international organizations, and prominent figures from the Jamaican diaspora.
