back “Full box” Last May, Sandrine Raghoonauth returned to us with a second work. Happy Pond It will be presented at the Maison de l’Étoile in Eureka, Moka, from August 23 to 24. The play will be performed to full house audiences over two days.
This new play shares the same philosophy as Carton Plein, that the script is written by the actors and modified by Sandrine Raghoonauth to suit the needs of the theatre. These actors have never acted in a play before. The entire process is under the guidance of the director. The public will be invited to discover Elvin Beetun, Jena Gunnoo, Isabelle Pellegrin, Jérôme Rochecouste, Juletta Julien and Yannick Nayna on stage. The idea for this play came about after Studio Kadanse in Floréal contacted Sandrine Raghoonauth with the offer of a theatre workshop. A call for participation was launched on social networks and this is how the six actors who went on the adventure found themselves in the room.
Happy Pond It is a multidisciplinary theatre. “There will be music, dance and drama. If I have to draw a comparison with Carton Plein, it’s because, this time, it’s not just a series of texts. The actors are committed to singing. They took voice lessons. They also did some dancing. The actors really stepped out of their comfort zone”the director stressed. In June, the small team began to create this work. “I asked the actors what themes they wanted to express on stage, things that were important and urgent for Mauritians. We made a list and then everyone chose two themes, which may or may not have been their original themes. From then on we started writing. Each one has a different theme. They are completely different groups of stories and the staging connects them all””, explains Sandrine Raghoonauth.

Letan Kontan’s placement quickly found a taker. “A lot of people have asked me if there will be a third date. It will depend on several factors, including budget, as both dates were homemade and we had a lot of help from friends. However, if we have sponsorship, it does not rule out another date.”, concludes Sandrine Raghoonauth.
