Lebanese Minister of Works and Transport Ali Hamiyah responded to a report by British newspaper The Daily Telegraph accusing Hezbollah of stockpiling weapons at Beirut airport for the attack, saying its information was incorrect.
The minister added at a press conference that the newspaper lacked transparency in its handling of reports about weapons storage at Beirut airport while relying on information from unknown sources.
The Lebanese minister revealed that he would file a lawsuit against the British newspaper.
The minister said Beirut Airport had been defamed for years, damaging Lebanon’s reputation, and was often interfered with by Israel.
On the other hand, Hamia pointed out that the Air Transport Association categorically denied the information contained in the Daily Telegraph report.
The Daily Telegraph cited sources inside Beirut’s main airport as saying Hezbollah has stored large quantities of Iranian weapons, missiles and explosives at the airport.
The information raised concerns that Rafik Hariri Airport, just four miles from the city center, could become a prime military target.
