Ecuador’s Brian Daniel Pintado won the gold medal on Thursday after winning the men’s 20km race walk at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Pintado separated from the main group with a kilometer to the finish line, but he never gave the impression that he would be caught. After crossing the line, Pintado, soaking wet, had amazing energy to celebrate Cristiano Ronaldo’s “Siu”.
Argentine José Torres Gil took first place in the men’s BMX freestyle with 94.82 points. Known as “El Maligno” in his country, he was born in Bolivia but later became an Argentine citizen. His score of 94.82 was 0.70 points higher than the second place. The White Celestine team won its first gold medal since Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
Finally, Adriana Ruano won the gold medal in the sport shooting event, becoming the first Guatemalan athlete (male or female) to win a gold medal for her country. She beat Italian Silvana Maria Stanco and Australian Penny Smith. The Guatemalan team was already on a roll, with Jean Pierre Brol winning bronze in the men’s sport shooting event, but Ruano marked July 31, 2024 as a historic day for the sport in the Central American country.
