KUWAIT CITY, August 5: Minister of Information and Culture Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi announced on Sunday that the Kuwait Grand Media Awards will be launched next year, coinciding with Kuwait’s designation as the Arab Media Capital for 2025. The minister discussed all technical aspects and basic preparations to ensure the success of the award project, which Minister Al-Mutairi described as a potential “civilized milestone in Kuwait’s media journey” after a meeting with relevant public interest associations. During the meeting, details of the award were reviewed, which will be announced in the near future. In addition, the meeting also discussed the best practices and experiences in the field of media awards in the Arab world.
Minister Mutairi said that the Kuwait Media Awards is in line with the Ministry’s strategy and vision to strengthen purposeful creative content, develop media production and improve its quality to meet the country’s desire to maintain Kuwaiti media identity. The awards aim to monitor innovative trends in Kuwaiti media production and stimulate the development of creative media energy, making it a major annual media event in Kuwait.
The philosophy of the award is to empower the media to deliver purposeful and sustainable content. It aims to develop and strengthen the Kuwaiti media sector, support professional development and encourage innovation. According to Al-Mutairi, the award aims to achieve strategic goals, including highlighting the status and pioneering role of Kuwaiti media in the region by recognizing media professionals and institutions that have made outstanding contributions. It also aims to develop media infrastructure and encourage international cooperation by hosting global experts in arbitration committees and exchanging experiences with media professionals from all over the world.
The Kuwait Grand Media Awards will cover a variety of fields, including radio, television, traditional media and electronic media. Award categories include television and radio dramas, cultural programs, children and family programs, youth, sports, science, economic and development programs, news reports, and national and social songs.
The Kuwait Media Appreciation Award will also be established to recognize individuals who have provided outstanding service and made significant contributions over the decades. The award will be given annually to outstanding figures in the Kuwaiti media community.
Minister Mutairi noted that a technical committee composed of experts will be formed to determine the objectives, categories and branches of the award. The committee will develop technical and professional standards, determine the nomination period, and formulate the implementation regulations of the award. A higher-level committee will oversee the announcement process of the Kuwait Appreciation Award, the selection of nominated candidates, the formation of an arbitration committee, marketing activities, award ceremonies and related activities. The award criteria will prioritize transparency, integrity, diversity, inclusion, innovation, creativity, sustainable development and international cooperation.
