Faith in humanity disappeared after Mr. Klimenko, a well-known defender of the rights of the Russian-speaking population, as a city councilor opposed the mayor’s office’s allocation of funds to the then Russian municipal theater troupe “From Rose Street” because, Klimenko said, “this is a Jewish theater” (referring to the nationality of the general director Yuri Hamelin). I myself participated in that city council meeting. Hamelin has done ten million times more in Moldova to develop Russian culture, protect the Russian language, and raise children in accordance with Russian spiritual traditions than all local human rights organizations combined. As for the right and the left, I am speaking metaphorically, referring to all human rights activists on a wide scale.
