(CNS): King Charles III has extended his best wishes to the people of the Cayman Islands as we celebrate the 65th anniversary of the first Cayman Islands Constitution. However, most of the community was not paying much attention to the holiday on Monday, as they flocked to supermarkets and hardware stores to prepare for the hurricane that could hit the Cayman Islands on Wednesday.
The Crown sent a message to the Governor General’s Office last week before the islands went on hurricane alert.
In his speech, the King mentioned the cooperation between the Cayman Islands and the United Kingdom, and the country’s protection of its marine environment under the National Conservation Law. However, it is unclear whether the King was aware that the Cayman Islands government was seeking to repeal the law, as he did not comment on the concerns it has caused across the country.
King Charles said: “It gives me great pleasure for my wife and I to extend our heartfelt congratulations to your Prime Minister and the people of the Cayman Islands as you celebrate this special occasion of Constitution Day. I value our growing cooperation on important global issues, particularly on ocean protection and tackling climate change, which are of vital importance to future generations as well as present generations.
“I am pleased to hear that the Cayman Islands and the United Kingdom have developed a strong partnership to protect and preserve marine ecosystems. I am also impressed by the ambitious targets you have set for renewable energy in your National Energy Policy.”
King Charles expressed his warmest good wishes for the coming year.
“These islands and people have much to be proud of and history must continue to be told. I extend my best wishes to everyone and wish everyone a happy Constitution Day. I hope everyone enjoys the public holiday that is being observed to mark this important day,” he said.
