Khatri to make men’s skeet debut

Paris: Omani shooter Saeed Al Khatri today represented the Omani sports delegation at the 33rd Summer Olympic Games in Paris 2024. Representatives of the Omani national shooting team will compete on Monday at the first day of preliminary qualifying in the men’s skeet event at the Châteauroux shooting centre.

Al-Khatiri will compete in Group 6 with several world-ranked shooters from around the world, including Qi Ying from China, Broel Carenas Jean from Guam, Sebastian Guerrero from France, Alberto Fernandez from Spain and Lorenzo Eduardo from the Dominican Republic.

The qualifying rounds will begin today and last two days. After the preliminary rounds on Tuesday, six shooters will advance to the finals.

On the first day, shooters will shoot 75 targets in the first round, followed by three rounds of 25 targets each.

A total of 50 targets will be shot on the second day of the competition (Tuesday), divided into two rounds, with 25 targets in each round. The top six players will advance to the finals to determine the gold, silver and bronze medalists.

On Sunday, Al-Khatiri completed official training under the supervision of Italian coach Luca Marini. A few days ago, he completed some active training before the start of the competition at the Chateauroux shooting center. He arrived in France earlier to train with other international shooters.

In addition, he also participated in an external training camp in Italy a few days before the opening of the Olympic Games. This overseas training camp, together with a short training in Chateauroux, helped the Omani shooter to increase his confidence, adapt to the competition environment, and become familiar with the weapons and various weather conditions at the competition venue. This will improve his chances of achieving good results in the qualifying rounds.

Luca Marini, the shooting team’s head coach, said that many shooters from different countries will participate in the qualifiers. “The competition is expected to be very intense, as everyone wants to secure a place in the next stage. Al Khatri will strive to break personal records, improve his world ranking and win extra points from his Olympic debut to enhance his presence in various international and regional championships. Participating in the Olympic Games is an important opportunity for shooters to gain valuable technical skills and experience. It is the largest event that brings together shooters from all over the world to compete for medals on a world-class shooting range that meets international standards. This participation will give Al Khatri more responsibility and confidence to participate in the upcoming regional, continental and international championships,” he added.

Athletics Technology Leadership Conference

A technical meeting for the athletics competition will be held tomorrow. National athletics coach Fahad Khalfan al Mashaykhi will represent the Omani national athletics team at the meeting as athletes Ali al Balushi and Mazoon al Alawi will compete in the 100m event. The meeting is expected to cover various technical details of the athletics competition, including athlete training schedules and official training details.

In addition, the final rosters for various events including the 100m preliminaries will be announced. Athletes will be divided into groups to compete in the preliminaries and then advance to the finals.

Female track and field athlete Mazoon al Alawi, who is competing in her third Olympics, will compete in the preliminaries, while young track and field athlete Ali al Balushi, who is participating in her first Olympics, will compete in the second stage after the preliminaries as he has already qualified for the Olympics through his ranking in the 100m event recognized by the World Athletics Federation.

Swimmer Issa gets ready

Swimmer Issa al Adawi, who is competing in his second Olympics after Tokyo 2020, is undergoing an intensive daily training session at the Arena de la Défense in Paris. Issa will compete in the 100m freestyle on Tuesday, which will start at 1:15pm (Oman time). The Omani swimmer will be aiming for a good result and a new record in his second appearance at the Olympics.

OOC President meets Omani ambassador in Paris

Sheikh Khalid Mohammed Zubair, President of the Oman Olympic Committee and head of the Omani delegation to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, met with Omani Ambassador Ahmed Mohammed Olaimi at the headquarters of the Omani Embassy in Paris.
