Khama denied on Facebook that he had said he was “unable” to carry out royal duties

Former President Ian Khama said Sunday Standard The report was headlined “All three Khama brothers say they are ‘unable’ to carry out royal duties”. Shortly after the report was published in the print edition, a banner headline was also reproduced on the newspaper’s Facebook page, as is customary.

Karma’s own page, which has more than 641,000 followers at press time, has its own standard practice: covering unfavorable front-page images or banner headlines with a stamped “Fake News.” We understand the page has a paid administrator, but Karma has the final say.

The term “fake news” is old, but former US President Donald Trump popularized it to refer not to false news but to unfavorable media coverage. However, what is odd about the title of the banner about the Khama brothers’ inability to perform royal duties is that the phrase was taken directly from Khama’s sworn statement to the Maun High Court.
