Traffic has returned to normal after Khagrachari was closed for five hours. A small part of the collapsed road was cleared for traffic after noon on Saturday (August 17).

Earlier, a landslide occurred near Sapmara in Alutila around 8:30 am on Saturday, blocking traffic on the road. Around 10 am, the road department and fire department personnel started mud removal work.

Khagrachari Roads Department and fire personnel are working to clear the mud from the road to normalise the traffic on the road.

Mohammad Zaker Hossain, deputy director of the Khagrachari Fire Department, said a large part of the mountain collapsed and fell on the road. It will take time to remove the soil. At present, some soil on one side has been removed and it is suitable for vehicles to drive.

Maksudur Rahman, executive engineer of Khagrachari highway department, said a lot of mud had appeared on the road. A sweeper was used to dig out the soil. It will take some time for it to become completely normal.
