The Council of Ministers, headed by Brigadier General Abdulrahman Tiyani, Chairman of the National Council for the Defense of the Fatherland and Head of State, met on Monday, June 24, 2024 to discuss major issues of the country.

Revoking Imouraren’s license

The Commission decided to revoke the “​​Imouraren” uranium mining license granted to the company IMOURAREN SA, active in the Agadez region since 2009. Despite the extension, the company did not comply with its commitments, leading to the State’s withdrawal of the license under the Mining Code.

The difference between patriotic actions

WAPCO-Niger officials and some oil ministry agents who supervised the loading of the second crude oil cargo at the Seme terminal in Benin will be awarded the Order of the Sovereign of Sarauniya Mangou. This distinction recognizes their efforts to defend Niger’s strategic interests despite intimidation and unjustified detention.

Reform of the Ministry of the Interior

A decree was adopted to reorganize the Ministry of the Interior. The Directorates-General for Decentralization and Territorial Administration and the Directorate-General for Regional Development and Territorial Planning will be merged to increase administrative efficiency.

New strategy for health and education

The Council approved the staffing strategy for the health and education sectors. The plan aims to strengthen basic public services through the equitable distribution of competent human resources in line with the country’s current and future needs.

Important appointments

Several important appointments were made:

– CNSP Chair: Iroh Adamu Appointed Chairman of the High Authority for Personal Data Protection.

– Ministry of National Defense: several colonels, including Kimba Taiguang As Director of Judicial Affairs, he was appointed to a strategic position.

– Ministry of Water Resources: Colonel Lalwani Abdulrahman Appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Société de Patrimoine des Eaux du Niger (SPEN).

– Prime Minister: Resume trade with Chad and transport Niger oil through pipeline.

– Minister of Water Resources: Announces the National Tree Festival in Tillabéry with the theme “Niger’s Great Green Wall, let’s take action”.

– Minister of Oil: Creation of a working group to review the hydrocarbon price structure and launch activities in the SONIDEP oil block.

– Minister of Defense: Purchase new vehicles for the Nigerien Armed Forces.

– Minister of National Education: Franco-Arab project for solar energy equipment in schools.

– Minister of Health: Supply of medical equipment and consumables for hemodialysis.

The meeting ended with the head of state adjourning the meeting.
