A total of 640 11-foot-long tin roofs and cement bags were distributed to communities in Kerowagi, Chimbu Province.
Kairowagi District Deputy Chief Executive and Disaster Management Group Chairman Joe Awi Kulame said they used the K1 million aid to provide food rations to the area and now they are providing 640 11-foot high tin roofs and cement bags to the displaced community of Nogar in Kupu Local Government Area two, three and four.
He said all the houses in the Noga community were recently washed away by floodwaters from the Waji River.
“So now we provide them with construction materials to build their new homes,” he said.
Mr Awi thanked Kerowagi MP Fransis Kikin Suine and the District Development Authority for their swift action in ensuring assistance was provided to the affected people.
Mr. Avi said that the funds allocated by the national government to the provincial government have not yet reached us, but under the leadership of the Krowage District Development Authority, we are able to fulfil our disaster relief obligations and I am happy to see the positive results of the Disaster Assistance Relief Program.
The disaster relief assistance program provided by the Kairowaji District to communities that suffered severe damage has really made a difference.
