Morteau, France: Cedrine Kerbauer attacked on stage six from Remiremont to Morgault on Friday to become the first home stage winner in the history of the women’s Tour de France. With 15km to go, Kerbauer (Ceratizit-WNT) opened up a decisive gap on the descent of the day’s final climb, 21 seconds ahead of her pursuers. Her daring ride put her in second place in the general classification, 16 seconds behind yellow jersey leader Katarzyna Nieviadoma, who had led the previous stage when leader Demi Vollerin crashed.
Dutch star Marianne Vos sprinted to second place to take the green jersey. Saturday’s 164km stage features five categorised climbs. On Thursday, Blanka Vas sprinted to fifth on stage 5, but her SD Worx-Protime teammate and defending champion Demi Vollering lost time in a crash and the overall lead, while Katarzyna Niewiadoma seized the opportunity.
Wohlering was one of several riders to crash with six kilometres to go, and the Dutchwoman looked in pain as she fought to cross the line with as little damage as possible to her overall result. The accident occurred on a tight bend as the pack was chasing a group of three riders, and Polish rider Nievia Doma, who started the day in third place and 34 seconds behind Wohlering, took full advantage of the crash to take the yellow jersey.

In the end, Wass and Nievia Doma fought for the stage win, and the Hungarian narrowly won, with German Lianne Lippert in third place. “It’s crazy, I still can’t believe it. I don’t know what to say; I didn’t expect this today because I felt bad during the race,” said Wass.
“My radio wasn’t working so I didn’t know what happened at the back but Demi went down so I think we lost the yellow card which is a shame and I have mixed emotions right now.” Canyon-SRAM Racing’s Niewiadoma lost the sprint on stage four to finish third behind Dutch duo Puck Pieterse and Vollering but she now has the consolation of taking the overall lead having finished third in each of the previous two years.
“It feels really special, I only found out a few minutes ago that I was going to get the yellow jersey, so I feel like it hasn’t really reached me yet, but I’m really happy,” said Niviadoma.
“Today’s stages in general were pretty chaotic and I feel like all the stages so far have been pretty hectic and dangerous so we knew we had to stay ahead.”
